Stun guns are very effective self defense products. The basic function of a stun gun is to disrupt the body’s electrical communication system. Stun guns* generate electrical charges at high-voltages and low-amperage. A stun gun’s charge has a lot of energy potential or force behind it, while generating a low level of damage. When you touch a stun gun to an attacker’s body and squeeze the trigger, an electrical charge passes into the attacker's body. Since the high voltage charge has a lot of force behind it, the charge can pass through heavy clothing and skin. However, at 3 to 10 milliamperes of current, the charge is not intense enough to do permanent damage to the attacker, unless it is applied repeatedly for an extended period of time.  One-tenth of 1.0 ampere or 100 milliamperes of electrical current is enough to stop a person’s heart.  Stun guns only deliver between 3 to 20 milliamperes of electrical current. This is enough to incapacitate an attacker, without doing any permanent damage.
